If you’re making games you’re going to need to deal with audio files — and while you can pay through the wazoo for “professional” audio software, there’s a free, cross-platform, and open-source alternative that is pretty darn good. It’s called Audacity.
You can find it here: Audacity
And as a member of GDN I’m going to give you access to a set of tutorial videos I created that will get you up and running fast — you’ll be editing audio like a pro in no time!
Get your access here:
The price for that product is set to $0 so please do not share that link — since a free membership in GDN will get it for you, send interested people to GDN to get the link on their own. Thanks.
One note — the tutorial videos were created before there was an iPad or even an iPhone, so they use Flash. I know, I feel bad about that, too. And the source files are long gone (I think they’re on a Jaz drive somewhere…) so I can’t redo them without actually recreating them.
But the info is still awesome.
If you don’t believe me, this is what some others have said about the tutorial videos:
I had read the info on Audacity but frankly unless I can ‘see’ it I can’t duplicate it. It’s one thing to read something and another to SEE it. This answered most of my major questions.
In fact, I just cleaned up an audio we had on our site about Mel Blanc (character voice for Bugs Bunny). If you listen to it now you’ll hear a lot of background noise. I used your techniques and cleaned out about 90% of the background noise and it sounds a lot better. I’ll be uploading the new version in the very near future.
This is what I’ve been looking for.”

[one_half_last]“Hi Jay, I wanted to tell how excited I am about Audio Editing Secrets.
Your timing couldn’t have been better. The day before I got your email I was trying to record and edit an audio for my coaching practice. I got so frustrated I just shut everything down and went to do something else.
Today I am an audio king! I made my first recording and edited it perfectly. I haven’t put it on my site yet, but it will be there soon. Thanks for this one.”
